MANILA, Philippines — Beverly Place Golf Club in Pampanga won three of four titles contested at the Luzon leg it co-hosted over the weekend, then prevailed in the tiebreaker to win the coveted 2022 Sta Lucia Golf Tour Club of the Year trophy.

Wins by Jericho Maceda/Michael Mangio (overall), Eduardo Sobrepena/Reymond Manalansan (Class B) and Angelito Pineda/Johnny Sambo (Class C) highlighted Beverly Place’s comeback after failing to secure a single point in Mindanao leg last month.

The Pampanga club scored 14 points to tie Davao’s Rancho Palos Verdes for the top prize in the 72-hole event played at all four different courses. The Beverly Place team won due to having more points in the Luzon leg which also included Friday’s first 18 holes at Pinewoods Golf Club in Baguio, taking six of the overall win and four apiece for passing class B and class C.

The Eagle Ridge pair of Gary Sales and Lauren Enrique prevented a Beverly sweep by taking Class A honors, posting 135 for a two-stroke victory over the Summit Point husband and wife tandem of Roger and Ahily Kidwell.

Abraham Lacaya and Brian Good salvaged two points for Rancho Palos Verdes finishing second one stroke behind Sobrepena and Manalansan’s 137 in Class B while Regent Asterio Lagura and Josef Maganduga put Royale Tagaytay in the points column with a second place finish in class. C where Pineda and Sambo finished eight strokes ahead with their 130.

“Credit goes to our players for grinding to the finish. We were discouraged by our zero production in Davao, but luckily we had the breaks when we needed them,” said Beverly Place General Manager Elson Alvaran.

No effort was greater than that of Maceda and Mangio who combined for a best 11-under-61 net that won the overall award for Beverly Place.

Sta. Lucia Land, Inc. and Sta. Lucia Realty & Dev. Inc. were the presenters for the Sta. Lucia Tour which has been relaunched after a five-year hiatus. VMJ Evergreen Golf Construction & Maintenance and Laus Group of Companies were major sponsors, Soto Grande Davao, Microtel Baguio and Microtel Pampanga were hotel partners, Manduto Restaurant Baguio and Ceazars Fairways Pampanga served as catering partners and Kart Plaza (Yamaha Golf Cart ) and Puma-Srixon Proshop (Cobra Ltdx Iron Set) was the hole-in-one sponsor.

Sta. Lucia Land President Vicente Santos presented the most prestigious awards to the winners along with the general managers of the 11 participating clubs.
